Mobile Marketing Explained
The term "Mobile Marketing" has emerged as the de facto standard phrase when it comes to defining the sending and receiving of content by way of mobile device. Mobile Marketing has become popular ever since the rise of SMS (Short Message Service) in the early 2000's.
The mobile phone platform delivers a new medium for interactivity to consumers and for organizations looking to extend their reach beyond traditional forms of engagement. Mobile marketing is driven by a large installed base and the "always on, always with you" nature that it offers. According to the "CTIA Wireless Industry Survey," currently there are over 270 million mobile phone subscribers, which loosely translates to 93% of the American population carrying mobile phones.
What is mobile marketing?
Mobile marketing uses the messaging technology (SMS and MMS) in mobile phones to deliver and receive relevant and targeted content that the consumer requests. This content can be alerts, notifications, surveys, coupons, or rich media such as photos or videos.
Mobile marketing is used in the following two ways:
Stand Alone Mobile Marketing: Extends your organization's outreach efforts to send and receive information such as questionnaires and/or surveys as well as informing subscribers of the newest, latest or breaking information about your organization or products offered.
Integrated Mobile Marketing: Adds a "Mobile Call to Action" to your existing outreach efforts. For example, "send us a picture from your mobile phone that shows you using our product for a chance to win a trip for two."
What does my organization gain?
Used as integrated in traditional or web based advertising By adding a mobile call to action to traditional forms of outreach, media and advertisement, your organization can track and measure all outreach efforts. Your organization now has the ability to interact directly with your audience anytime and anywhere. Furthermore, your organization now has the ability to track and record detailed usage statistics that can include key demographics of the user, including name, mobile number and address. With this information, you can enhance your outreach efforts to better understand your target audience and allocate marketing dollars accordingly.
Why will my audience use it?
The consumer demand for mobile marketing is driven by the "now" factor that technology has provided. Just as the Internet provides us with instant information 24 hours a day, the mobile phone is becoming the next source outside the PC to give us this instant information. Consumers are now using their mobile phones to download music and obtain driving directions (GPS), stock quotes, sports scores, and weather updates. Because 93% of the population has a mobile phone, this becomes an ideal medium to create that one to one relationship with your targeted audience.
What tactics are best suited for my organization?
Mobile marketing is one of the newest technologies to support outreach. Your organization has its own specific needs and goals, so it is very difficult to use the "one size fits all" approach for mobile marketing. What is important is that you consult a knowledgeable company that will review your plan of action and make recommendations based on experience to ensure the success of your campaigns.
I have text messaging enabled on my mobile phone. Why can't I receive text messages from BizCardText on my mobile phone?
You may already have text messages enabled on your mobile phone, but the use of "short codes" may be blocked by your mobile phone service provider, or per your request. You must have short codes enabled to use BizCardText. Please contact your mobile phone service provider to ensure they aren't blocking the use of short codes.
It could be that that the issue is you have Premium SMS blocked as well. Even though BizCardText short codes are free and are "Standard SMS". If you have Premium SMS blocked, then all short codes will be blocked, whether they are free or not, so in order to receive text messages from BizCardText, make sure to check with your carrier and make sure both Standard and Premium SMS are "unblocked".
You may have, or someone part of your phone plan, had the Block Premium SMS feature added to prevent the charging short code programs, but please keep in mind it also blocks the free short code programs like BizCardText.
We would recommend calling Customer Care for your carrier and seeing if a "block" of Short Code Text Messaging is on your account. Remember to make sure that both Premium and Standard short code text messaging is "unblocked".
